From the East ...

I don't know how many of you remember the "Dallas" episode where Bobby was in the shower and his wife walked in and he was wondering what her problem was? Well, for those of you that watched you know what happened, according to him he woke up from a dream and all this time had passed..! Not to mention he had been shot. Well this summer seemed like a "dream," it passed so fast!! It was filled with travels, family visits, and vacation time and now it is approaching fall and it's like I just woke up from a long pleasant dream it all went so fast!!

Most Worshipful Brother Doug Tucker's installation and Grand Lodge was a memorable experience. My first time to Grand Lodge and so honored and humbled to be able to attend with two special members of Audubon Park Lodge participating in the Installation of the 2008-2009 officers. A rare experience to watch a "Father and Son" passing the torch in our Fraternal Brotherhood.

I can not believe my year is almost over and I haven't accomplished nearly all the things that I had planned. I guess that means I will have to work a little harder and more time and give a lot of support during Barry's upcoming term. I have learned so much and also learned that I have so much more to learn. It has been such an honor for me to represent Audubon Park as your Master and I pledge to continue to support our Lodge. I also challenge all the able Past Masters to be involved and support our Brotherhood and continue to work to make the Masonic Lodge Brotherhood one that is recognized for its community support and service.

In closing I want to thank those that have "schooled me" "supported me" and "guided me" through this year. You will never know how much your help has meant to me. Let's continue to pass the support on to Barry and make his year as special to him and you all have done for me. Hope to see you in Lodge on September 10th for Advance Night when we come back into the Light. Not to sound long winded, but again thank you to each and every one of you for allowing me to be your Master this past year. Please share a smile, as you never know who made need one!!

Bill Queen
Worshipful Master

From the West...

I want to welcome all of you back to the light. September's stated meeting on the 10th is move up night. Come and support your brothers as they work hard to learn their new parts. We need all of your support and encouragement.

Grand Lodge in June was a special time for our lodge. Our brother MW Doug Tucker was installed as Grand Master by his father past Grand Master MW Harold Tucker. This father/son installation was a first for the Grand Lodge of Washington State. In August we held a celebration for MW Doug Tucker to honor our new Grand Master. It was fun evening for all that attended. Last year we participated in the bikes for books program providing two bikes to Finch Elementary. We will be continuing this program again this year. If you would like to be a part of this let WM Bill Queen know.

Next month, October 8th at our stated meeting, we will be holding elections for the coming year. If you would like to serve please let WM Bill know. Please attend this important meeting in the life of you lodge and help select your leaders.

Senior Warden

From the South...

Where did summer go? It seems like it was just yesterday when I received the June Pillars and Barry Rettkowski, Senior Warren said "I can't believe that summer is here already." I hope all by brothers and their families had a great summer.

This summer I took a two mouth motorcycle trip to, Knoxville, TN; Fernandina Beach, FL; Greenville, SC; Middletown, PA and back to Elk, WA. One of the highlights of my trip was when a man came up to me and said, "I see you are a brother". Isn't it great that being a Mason you know no matter where you go there is a brother nearby?

Another highlight was visiting the Shrine Hospital in Greenville, SC. It is bigger than ours, but I think we have the best here in Spokane. The last stop on my trip was to see my dad. Some of you met him when he came to Audubon Park Lodge. He is in a Masonic Home in Elizabethtown, PA. It is more like a resort than a home. They have everything a resort has. I am looking forward to see you all at the September stated meeting.

Junior Warden

In Other News...

From the Secretary's Desk

I try to keep up on address changes, demits, NPD's and deaths as they come to my attention. All of these items are reported to the Grand Secretary. I received our latest list from Grand Lodge and will review it for any additional changes If you would please email or call me with any changes of mail or email address I will keep this updated. Dues notices will be mailed in October and I would appreciate your prompt attention to these.

The Lodge can use a few good Masons to fill a chair. Also needing Brothers to be called upon to do a few items on our "honey do list." So if you would be so kind to join us in a cup of cheer and labor with us it would be greatly appreciated.

A number of years ago I agreed, when asked, to serve as your Secretary. I have been asked to serve next year, to which I have agreed, if no other Brother comes forward to serve. In the past I have served many organizations as an Executive Secretary, and or Treasurer. I am competent and up to this task. For the good of any organization there should always be a contingency plan. Therefore I would like to work with a Brother who will be willing to learn the position and assume the office. I would very much enjoy being second chair to the Brother.

Fraternally Yours:
W. Br Eric E. Berman, Secretary.

Audubon Park Masonic Building Association

I am pleased to report that we have a new short term renter. The Brotherhood of Friends (BoF) has agreed to our terms for rental of the Lodge Dining Room for at least three Fridays per month, beginning Friday September 19 for dances. They are very impressed with the quality of the dance floor and the building in general, for these dances. They will be open to the public, giving dancers in the area yet another venue.

As this is being written I don't know what the cost will be to attend the dances, but will publicize that as soon as it's known. There has been interest already from dancers that they will be able to attend functions at the Lodge. Many thanks to WB Eric Berman, who was approached by a member of the BoF at the recent celebration dance in honor of Grand Master Doug Tucker - Thanks WB Eric.

The City Parks and Recreation Dept also continues to rent the building Tuesdays and Thursdays for exercise classes. We would still like to see more rentals for weddings, receptions, anniversaries, and other such functions. If you know of someone considering such a rental, please have them contact us. Our rental rates are among the most competitive in the area.

Finally - any of you who might be interested in "taking over" the responsibilities of Building Manager, please let WM Bill Queen know of your interest."

VWB Chuck Young
Temple Board Secretary (for the time being!)

Happening at the Lodge

Audubon Park Masonic Foundation

Greetings Brothers: Just returned from a wonderful week at Steam Boat Rock State Park. We had great weather, boating, tubing, hiking, walking, and metal detecting. Your Foundation officers have been busy. We have received a number of donations over the past months. We were able to help our Temple Bldg. pay the insurance bill. We are attempting to establish a reserve to meet these annual reoccurrences. We received a Memorial contribution on the passing of Br. Lloyd Lamb, a friend of many and an honorary contribution for W. Br. John Smith. It is reported John assisted a Brother and would not accept compensation. Instead the Good Brother has directed the contribution be donated to the Foundation.

Grand Honor Night - M.W. Br. Douglas E. Tucker, Grand Master, was held on Aug 8. In attendance were 65 who joined us for the reception, dinner and dance. The Social Hall was decorated with lights, balloons, and ribbons with a patriotic theme in colors of red, white and blue. The food was prepared by Lady Anne and was delicious. Music was provided by the very talented Dianne Copeland who played and sang many of our favorites. Our event was endorsed by "USA Dance America, Ball Room Dance." We had a number of their members join us and enjoyed what we offered.

Thanks to all the helping hands. If it were not for our volunteers a great event such as this would not have been possible. A special thank you goes to V.W. Br. Ted Shrum who assisted with protocol and introductions. Also to W.B. Bill Wilson who labored in the kitchen, W.B. Bill Queen, who helped set up, and V.W.Br. Gaylon Arisman, W.B. Richard Hentz, W.B. John Smith, Br. Barry Rettkowski, Ray, Tami Opfer, Jenn Gollehon, Robin and Glenn Allison and all of the children and grand's. I apologize if I missed mentioning any ones name. $450.00 was donated to our Foundation as an Honorarium for MW. Br. Doug Tucker. The Honorarium fund will remain open during his term of office. Therefore, it is not too late to contribute if one would want to do so.

Your Foundation is always willing to discuss with you ways in which our portfolio value can be enhanced. We still dream of the day we will hold position of invested assets of $250,000. Your donations, small or large, are always welcome. Call on us any time.

Please contact me with your comments or question by email, or phone. 509-328-2910
