From the East ...

I was walking in the woods yesterday and I came across a glass jar. On the glass jar it read “Presto Supreme Mason” and it got me thinking what a Supreme Mason would be. To me it is a Mason who goes that extra mile to help his lodge and his follow Brother. The one you can count on to help you lean your digress, floor work and lectures. The Masons that raises funds, maintains the building and grounds and brings new members it. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, a Supreme Mason is an active Mason.

We would like to welcome our newest Entered Apprentice Brother Patrick Hinckley and his family to our lodge.  We also have two petitions to ballot on at our March meeting.

If you didn’t make it to our family night in January and February you missed out on two great meals.  Jan. was clam chowder cook by W.B. Bill Wilson and ham chowder cook by W.B. Eric and Ann Berman.  Feb. was taco soup cook by yours truly.  Our March family night will be on the 19th it is our annual Audubon Park Masonic Foundation Irish Celebration.  Grand Master, Gale H. Kenney will be attending the dinner.  If you need tickets call Eric Berman @590-9001.

"I am closing my address with a confession.  Since becoming a Freemason, I forgot hate. Instead, I learned to love - to love God and my fellowman. I am now at ease with my own conscience. I only do what I think is right, and shun all evil.  I also forget fear. I can be alone no matter where I am, what I do, or where I go.  A clean conscience makes a man brave. I hope that Freemasonry has had the same influence upon all of you, which is an assurance of a better world to live in, and a happier humanity to live with."

General Emillio Aguinaldo, Filipino Hero, addressing the Grand Lodge of the Philippines in 1955

From the West...

Here it is March already, and Grand Lodge is looming in near future! That means that the Stated meeting for June will be later in the month than normal, but the work still has to be done. Not just work around the Lodge keeping it in presentable shape, but work on our proficiency and floor work. As with all things that matter, we need to practice and care about what we do. A Lodge is known by it Brethren, its philanthropy, and its floor work. Have you gone visiting and noticed the differences in the Lodges with their floor work and memory work.

That is because some care about it, and others “go with the flow”. We are not, and have never been, one of those that “go with the flow”. The Worshipful Master has set aside the first Monday of the month for practice, and we need to make an effort to be there. Sure, there may be times we can’t make it due to other commitments, but we ALL have made a commitment to be better, wiser and therefore happier as Masons. We need to be there for ourselves and the Lodge! Take pride in your Lodge and your Masonic endeavors, and surely the Senior Warden will “pay the wages” that we are the best Lodge in District, nay, the State! I challenge you, I double-dog dare you to show pride and care in your Lodge!

From the South...

It seemed like yesterday the celebration of the New Year and new decade took place. However we are in the third month of the year. Being in the South it is my responsibility to observe the time. Time moves past us at a rapid rate if we don’t take the effort to observe it. We should take the opportunity to be aware of what is happening around us as well as to us. See who or what is making an affect on our lives. We as Freemasons have the opportunity to make an impression on our environment as well as those who occupy it. The drama and history shared with a new candidate leaves a lasting impression. Our history can be shared with those who have an attraction to our Fraternity. We currently have one new candidate pursuing accomplishment in his first degree. I have been informed that there are two more candidates who wish to become Freemasons as well. It appears that sharing our awareness and passion for our fraternity an interest can be created in others. Presently we all should be working toward our fraternity’s continued growth.

Happening at the Lodge

Audubon Park Masonic Foundation

Were you aware as members of Audubon Park Lodge 272, you are automatically members of our Foundation and Masonic Temple Building ?  Each of us therefore has a vested interest in the efforts and successes of our Foundation and Temple Building . Both are managed by a Board of Directors, volunteers for the benefit of us all.  Our Temple Building is the major asset of the Lodge and is managed to generate revenue to pay the bills.  The Foundations goal and purpose is to raise an asset base of $250,000 to generate the income to assist in the management of the Temple , Lodge and charitable programs.

We attempt to make our members aware of the reason why the Foundation is involved in selective fund raising efforts.  Past activities included appeals, letters, sustaining membership, raffles, dinners & dances.  There are very few alternatives available to us to reach our goal.

During this past year we have received 60 donations (Masons and Non Masons) for $3,878.  Over the past 20 years we have received 761 donations (cash or services) totaling $119,346. They range from a few cents in a Serendipity Jar from a grade school student to bequests of $10,000.  Many donations were in the $10, $15 and $20 range and these Brothers were consistent in donating.  Please remember donations regardless of the amount are always welcome. On February 28, 2010 our Foundation asset base value reached $133,881.78.

Over the years many of our Brothers and Sisters have entered the Celestial Lodge and when I review the names I try to remember a little of each one.  When I communicate with our Corporate Attorney, he encourages us to hasten our efforts by attracting larger donation from Lodge Brothers through Honorariums, Memorials, Life Time Gifting and Bequests.  Annually I make several donations and underwrite many of the expenses of the programs we chair.   At the Corned Beef Dinner our family will make a Memorial Donation in memory of our parents Warren and Gertrude, who loved the Temple Building and the Corned Beef Dinner.   I also have included a provision in my will for a bequest to the Foundation.   We have been informed at least four brothers have made provisions for bequests to the Foundation.  We would welcome the opportunity to discuss any of our donation programs with you.

Our Corned Beef Dinner and Appreciation Night will be held on March 19, 2010 . This is the Annual meeting of the Foundation of which we all are members.  Grand Master M.W. Br. Gale H. Kenney will be our special guest.  He will help us present our 2010 grant checks to our charities, recognize our donors, and present our Masonic Service Awards to: 55 year, 50 year, 40 year and 25 year members.  Eric and Anne will host a complimentary social hour at 5:45 and dinner at 6:30 .   Diane Copeland, wonderful and accomplished vocalist and musician will provide an evening of entertainment for your listening and dancing pleasure.  The net proceeds will benefit our Lodge and Temple Building .  If unable to attend we would still welcome your donations.

Please write, email or call me for further information.  In closing I hope you have a most wonderful Spring.

Fraternally Yours:

W.B. Eric E. Berman, Sec-Treas. A.P.M. Foundation.

Ivanhoe Chapter No. 80, Order of the Eastern Star

Ivanhoe Chapter would like to send an Irish Blessing to all for the month of March:

Always remember to forget, the things that made you sad.

But never forget to remember, the things that made you glad.

Always remember to forget, the friends that proved untrue.

But don't forget to remember, those that have stuck by you.

Always remember to forget, the trouble that passed away.

But never forget to remember, the blessing that come each day.

Welcome to the time for Eastern Star installations!  Ivanhoe Chapter will hold their installation on April 3, 2010 at 2 pm .  Our new Worthy Matron will be Evelyn Burris and our New Worthy Patron is James DeLano.  They are first timers in the East and got their feet wet at Ivanhoe Chapter's February 18th meeting.  Our Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron Libby and Bill Queen were vacationing in Florida and celebrating their son's 40th birthday at Disney World.  Hope they had a great time! Their last meeting will be March 18th.  Time sure has past quickly for this past star year.

April 22, at our stated meeting we will honor our Jr Past Matron and Jr. Past Patron Libby and Bill Queen.   All members come out and thank them for their service to Ivanhoe Chapter.

At our stated meeting, May 20, we will honor the Mother's of Ivanhoe Chapter. For the Mothers of Ivanhoe Chapter we have the following blessing:  May joy and comfort greatly bless and fill your days with happiness and may your hearts be filled with cheer, and sweet contentment through the year.  Thanks to all the Mothers!

June will find us preparing for Grand Chapter June 27 to the 30th, 2010 in Yakima Washington at the Sundome and then going dark for the summer months. We will meet on June 17th for our last stated meeting before the summer break. We will honor our Fathers and the flag of our Country.  Have a great summer and will be back with you in the fall with more happening of Ivanhoe Chapter.
