Volume 10 No. 5

From the East
Brethren, we have passed another brother to the degree of Fellowcraft Mason, and are looking forward to passing others that are working on their proficiencies. It is only by mentoring our junior brethren that we are able to take an active part in the future of our Lodge and Fraternity. The majority of our Lodge members “ain’t spring chicks” anymore; and as such we need to attract new members into our Fraternity. Do you know someone that has expressed an interest in Masonry, or even asked a question about it? Once they have broached the subject, let them know who we are, what we do, and how we do it. Invite them to one of our Family Pot Luck Nights to see and meet our Brethren and families.
I would like to say congratulations to Br. John Walther for being passed to the degree of Fellowcraft Mason, Friday, May 27th. I would also like to say “Thank You” to all that came and helped make it a memorable night for him, and helped put on the degree work! We will see you on the third Wednesday of June, the 15th for the last stated meeting before we go dark for the summer. It is on this day as Grand Lodge is on our normal Stated Meeting day of the 2nd Wednesday of the month. There will be information about the Lodge and the rentals status. Hope to see you all there!
WB Bill Wilson
From the West
The sun FINALLY came out two days in a row, but the forecast is for more rain. Our son was in Denver the other day and was delayed returning to Seattle because of HEAVY SNOW. Guess it "will be what it will be" but it sure is getting frustrated. It's supposed to be four seasons here in Spokane but maybe this year we'll only have three!!!
Speaking of the weather - not sure how this is related - but Grand Lodge is upcoming in about a month. WBs Barry, Rich and I will be attending. WB Bill won't be able to attend but I point out that we will be there. We would appreciate any feed back you may have on any of the matters that MAY come before the voting body.
Some of them have the potential to impact each of us - like proposed dues increases. Others may not be quite so significant, but just the same, you should familiarize yourself with the matters being proposed. I'm sure Secretary VWB Merle will be happy to share his copy of the proposed actions.
We only have one month left until we "go dark" for July and August. Remember, June stated meeting is June 15, a week later than normal, due to Grand Lodge.
I want to join with MWB Harold and comment our newest Mason, Bro Rob Humbird, for taking the time and being at the May Lodge meeting. Whether you are the newest member of the Lodge or one of the more "experienced" members, the fellowship shared in Lodge can't be shared anywhere else.
That's all for this edition - take care, see you at the June Potluck, and have a wonderful summer.
VWB Chuck Young
From the South
Make sure you mark your calendar and join us each month at our stated meetings and at our Family nights. Come and join in the friendship and fellowship that makes our fraternity special. As this is the first Pillars since Brother Robert Humbird and his wife Ashley into our Masonic family I want to say welcome.
Finally Brethren, I must report the passing of WB Dean Whitter. Please keep his family in your prayers.
Audubon Park Masonic Building Association
The carpet in our Blue Lodge room continues to be a item the building association is working on. It has served beyond its expected life and coming apart. The initial replacement costs have been in the range of $6,000 to $8,000. As of yet we have not located a suitable replacement, nor do we have the funds to do so. Funding these projects will need support from our Foundation and from all of us.
The church that has been renting our building for the past several years is no longer there. This will free up the lodge for rentals on Sunday.
Contact Sonja Duffy at 509-624-2728 if you know someone that is interested in renting the building. If anyone is interested in becoming the building manager please contact Worshipful master WB Bill Wilson or the Lodge secretary.
From the Secretary's Desk
One or two have not paid their 2011 dues. Check you dues card, if it does not have 2011 on it you are in arrears. This year we paid $15 to Grand Lodge for all enrolled Master Masons. The return on the life membership fund was about $400 short of paying the enrolled Master Mason assessment. If the financial resolutions at Grand Lodge were successful the assessment will jump to $27 per enrolled Master Mason. You can predict the shortfall as the return on the life membership fund will be significantly short of paying next years assessment.
The underwriting of the life membership fund is seriously behind the realities of the 21st century. There are potential solutions that the Lodge can consider.
The truly good news is that we are slowly increasing the membership in Audubon Park Lodge 272. It is good to see Masonry growing in Eastern Washington and know that Audubon Park 272 is contributing to that growth.

Audubon Park Masonic Foundation
Our investment value continues to recover from previous lows. If you have an asset of value and willing to donate, please let me know. Our long term
Foundation goal remains the same: To raise an asset base of $250,000 to support our Lodge, Temple Bldg and charities. Our short term goal is to have an
asset base of $175,000 by Dec 31. Your contribution will help us reach this milestone.
The Foundation Annual Meeting/Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner was held on March 16 at 6:30 pm. We will report on our activities, provide financial reports, and present Service Awards were presented to several of our members who will have completed 50 plus years of membership. We also presented Certificates of Appreciation to our donors and presented grants to our Lodge, Temple Bldg and charities. Thank you for joining us for this celebration.
Fraternally yours in service.

Ivanhoe Chapter No. 80, Order of the Eastern Star
We at Ivanhoe Chapter are real happy to announce our own Janice Glidden will be Grand Ruth for the 2011/12 Eastern Star Grand Chapter. The announcement was made at our April meeting by Associate Grand Matron Gloria Schwartz and Associate Grand Patron Frank Pascoe.
At our June 16, 2011 stated meeting we will honor Fathers and the American flag. With the summer months upon us, Ivanhoe Chapter will be busy with money-making events. They range from working at Sprague Lake Rest Stop or Telford Rest Area and working concessions at the ballpark, or other fun-time events.
The end of June brings Grand Chapter in Yakima, Washington at the Sun Dome. Everyone have a great summer and we will see you in the fall!
