From the East ...

Brethren, we are starting a new year, I am looking forward to working together to continue the awesome work that has been started in our community and Lodge. As you all could see, I was a bit nervous in the East but I know with each meeting and with your support things will not be quite so hard in the months to come. First on the agenda, I want to again thank my Installing Officers for a wonderful job. I want to acknowledge the splendid job of the Demolay boys; it was an honor share the hall with such fine young men. And I want to extend a heart felt thank you to everyone that helped make it a memorable occasion. Thanks for helping to put things away so we could all join our friends for refreshments in a timely manner. Thank you for all the hard work in helping to clean the recreation hall and kitchen after refreshments, it was greatly appreciated!! Last but not least, I want to thank my beautiful Granddaughters Madison and Hannah for the splendid job of escorting the officers during the ceremony and the rest of my Family that added to and made the evening so special for me.

Our next meeting is December 12th, and I would like to treat the Lodge to a "Chili Feed" prior to our meeting. I will start serving at 6:00 pm. Please come a little early and have dinner with me. Let's remember the children at Christmas time and all that can, please bring a new unwrapped toy for the "Toys for Tots" and Worshipful Brother Bill Wilson has volunteered to make sure the toys are delivered.

At our January meeting we will have a presentation by Brother Barry Rettkowski showing slides from his trip this past summer. For those of you that were not at the Family Night potluck, his slides are wonderful and very informative, they contain very interesting historical facts. It is a presentation well worth seeing!! Please mark that night on your calendars and invite other Brothers to attend.

February brings a month devoted to "Hearts and Flowers". I am currently working on something special for that evening. I will get the message out by word of mouth, email, phone and "snail" mail as to what is planned for this meeting.

Lib and I want to wish each one of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! May this Holiday Season bring lots of wonder memories for the years to come and may 2008 be kind to each of you and your Families.

Please share a smile, as you never know who made need one!!

Bill Queen
Worshipful Master

From the West...

Thank you to the brethren for electing me to serve as the Senior Warden. I will strive to assist the Worshipful Master to the best of my ability in everything he needs. WM Bill has some interesting plans for the lodge meetings and is trying different things to improve the meetings. Please plan on attending to see what is happening and to show your support to your new master. The next stated meeting is Dec. 12. December is a time to remember others who are less fortunate than we are. At our family night we will be collecting for the Toys for Tots program, plan on attending Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share and toys to give.

There are still several chairs open in the lodge. We still need a Tyler and two Stewards to fill all of the positions. Come to lodge and volunteer to share the joy of a full lodge.

I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and hope that the New Year will find you healthy and happy.

Barry Rettkowski
Senior Warden

From the South...

I would like to say thank you to the brethren for electing me for the position of Junior Warden for 2008. It will be a pleasure to work with WM Bill Queen, SW Barry Rettkowski and all the officers and brethren of Audubon Park Lodge No. 272.

It's holiday time throughout the world. Here's hoping that yours is wonderful and grand. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Our next meeting is December 12. I hope to see all of brethren there to support our new officers.

From the Secretary's Desk

The 2008 dues notices were mailed and your Secretary added a personal greeting and note to each Brother. Thank you to the Brothers who have sent in their dues. We very much appreciate also the contributions made to the Memorial and Honorarium campaign!

At our November Stated meeting a memorial service was held for three of our Brothers who passed away: Warren Batters, William Jensen and Ward H. Mc Donald. Memorial donations will be made in their honor. Also passing was a long time supporter of the Lodge and Temple, Mrs. Margaret Kilcup, November 26, 2008. Many of us remember her dedication to the Temple Building, serving as the Secretary Treasurer for over 25 years. Memorial contributions have been received in loving memory of Margaret.

In 1985 I computerized the lodge data base, which I use to this day. The Secretary's office has had only "hand me down computers" and which were always on the edge of being obsolete, that is why the systems were given to us.

As Secretary I have cleaned out substantial amounts of worthless paper over the last two years and brought some organization to the office. This month the Lodge, Temple Board and Foundation have replaced the obsolete computer systems with a state of the art system and current programs. Thanks to W.B. Bill Wilson who built for us a system from a blank box to a state of the art computer system!

The officers of all three organizations to now have the ability to do what they need to do in an efficient manner. I now have access to the data base of Grand Lodge and can file reports as being requested. Grand Lodge will grant more access and use of its system as time passes. The Secretary or Treasurer can run financial reports as needed. The Temple Manager will be able to show the Temple to potential renters and print off contracts as needed. Secretarial and Financial Data will be immediately available. The Foundation will initially fund, by grants, the expense. The Temple Board recognizes its obligation to attract more rentals and raise its income. Should a Brother desire to assist with the investment into this dream, please do so. It's an exciting time for us all.

Have a most enjoyable Christmas and New Years.

Please feel free to email or call me. I do want your input.

Fraternally Yours:
W.Br Eric E. Berman, Secretary.

Audubon Park Masonic Building Association

Your Temple Board met the week after Thanksgiving to discuss a number of things. VWB Chuck Young has agreed to assume the duties of Temple Manager. WB Eric Berman is our new Temple Board Treasurer. WB Floyd Morse continues, for the time being, to coordinate our rentals.

The Board agreed to try a year on the KHQ Wedding Web site to see if we can increase the number of wedding rentals for the Lodge building. WB Eric informed us we won't have sufficient income to pay the bills if we don't increase it. Increasing the rentals is a relatively simple way to do so.

The Temple Board formally requested the Audubon Park Masonic Foundation to purchase an upgraded computer system with internet access. WB Eric states this is required for communication with Grand Lodge and keeping the records straight.

VWB Chuck has been trying to spend at least a couple hours each week working on various projects at the Lodge. The building needs a lot of TLC. Many thanks are due to VWB Chet Echelbarger too. Chet has been willing to help with a number of plumbing projects, which sure helps reduce the need to pay for a plumber.

That's about all for this month. Hope you all have a wonderful and joyous Christmas and Holiday.

VWB Chuck Young
Temple Board Secretary

Happening at the Lodge

Audubon Park Masonic Foundation

Tribute to Margaret Kilcup: Margaret was very dedicated to the Temple Building and concerned about its survival. When I was serving as President of the Temple, mid 1980's, Margaret called me and said we have a serious cash flow issue. We huddled and sent a letter to our members stating the obvious and requested consideration for assistance. Within several weeks we raised the funds necessary to get thru the summer. Lodge Officers and Temple Board members found a solution to the min-cash-flow-crisis which occurred several times a year. The Audubon Park Masonic Foundation was established. Margaret was honored at an Annual Meeting of the Foundation with a Plaque presented by the Grandmaster for her years of dedicated service. She received a standing ovation. We have received Memorial Contributions to honor Margaret.

We have a new board of directors with W.B. John Smith as President and me as Sec.-Treas. and Fund Raising Director. W. Br. Bill Queen joins our board as Master. Our fund is in the $160,000 range. We are ahead of our yearly established goal. I established a higher goal to stretch ourselves a little further; $180.000 by Dec 31, 2007. Should we meet this goal I will invite all Lodge Brothers to attend a very nice dinner hosted by me!

Events Briefly: We held the Cornstalk Dance and Dessert, it was a great event. Fifty one dancers attended and we cleared $200 for the Foundation. The Bikes for Books Program is under way. We bought two bikes for the kids for a Christmas drawing. We will buy two more for a spring drawing. For the Food Bank, the Lodge raised $175.00 and Foundation donated $75.00 for a total of $250.00, donated to Tom's Turkey Drive.

The Clam Chowder Feed will be held in January in conjunction with our Family Night. The annual meeting of the Foundation, the Corned Beef Dinner and Appreciation Night will be in March.

I invite those who are so inclined to make a tax deductible contribution to the Foundation to please consider doing so. As always please write, call or email me with your comments, concerns or to answer your questions.

Fraternally Yours:
W.Br. Eric E. Berman, Secretary Audubon Park Masonic Foundation
